What Are Connectors? Our Connectors have a simple but vital mission: introducing club members to other members they do not yet know. When they facilitate these introductions, Connectors also take photos of the newly acquainted members and share the pictures that with name cards, helping people remember their new connections’ faces and names. But the program serves a secondary purpose as well. Curious non-members often notice the signs and the friendly interactions happening during boot-up time. They approach our table asking, “What is going on? Where are you from?” This creates perfect opportunities to share information about our club and hand out brochures to potential new members—meaning people 55 and up who are looking for new friends to ski with.

Also, back by popular demand:
The Senior Skier Development Program will commence on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, and will conclude on February 4, 2026. (Please note: No class on January 28).
The cost is $309.00 for four 2-hour sessions (regular price $488). Sharon Christ, who is leading this project, will share registration information and more details at the December Luncheon.

Volunteer Opportunity This year, we are hoping to have two people for each shift. We will be posting a volunteer calendar and encourage you to consider donating just an hour at the beginning of your ski day for, say, two days out of the season. C’mon, enjoy the rewarding experience of being a Connector. It is a simple way to strengthen our club community while having fun meeting fellow members and sharing our passion for skiing with others. Start the conversation about becoming a Connector by emailing Debbie Connell at
[email protected].

My experience as a Connector was a lot of fun.

The Role In Brief

  • One hour shift 8:15-9:15am before you ski
  • Set up some tabletop signs in Roundtop’s lodge
  • Greet people/ Introduce people
  • Go skiing
  • Text info to people you met

Simple, right? But it won’t happen without people like you volunteering. More about that at the end of this email.

If you are concerned about approaching others, my experience was that people were coming up to me; no real outreach was needed. Members and nonmembers were stopping by to see what the 55+ display was all about.

Why
At its core, the purpose of our club is to give people, 55 or over, a place to meet and make friends with other people who ski. A place for people who miss skiing with others, but no longer have friends who still ski.
And, over the years, the 55+ club has had great success with skiers meeting other skiers and making friends. But we also hear stories of people who joined the club and didn’t get to know other people.
The Connections Committee was created to see if we could create an atmosphere where it was easier to get to know other skiers.
That’s the reason we created the Meet and Greets last year. And that’s the reason for the Connectors program.
I have been a member for three years, and I knew a few faces but had not really connected with other members when skiing. The two times I served as a Connector gave me a chance to meet other members, a number of them invited me to join them skiing later on the hill.

Join the Fun
To make the Connectors program work, we need members to volunteer for an hour before skiing on a day of their choosing (or perhaps two or even three days.)
We sought out feedback and suggestions from last year’s Connectors and I think it’s fair to say that everyone who served as a Connector last year found it both easy and fun to do.
We have a 45 minute webinar coming up on December 30th at 4pm that will teach first-timers (and veterans who want a refresher) the specifics of how to be a Connector. If you can’t make that, we will have a recording of the webinar you can watch--as well as printed material if you'd prefer. Either way, the job is pretty simple (see the bullet points at the top of this email.)
Between January and February, we have 12 days scheduled for Connectors this season. And, ideally, we’d like to have two Connectors per day, so that’s 24 slots we need to fill. So join us, you’ll be glad you did!
Ready to Volunteer (or even thinking about it)?
If you can help, email Debbie Connell, our Volunteers Coordinator, at [email protected]. She’ll send you a link to the online signup where you can choose your date to Connect and a link to webinar, if you want to attend. (Pro tip: Couples who want to Connect together can sign up jointly, taking both slots for a date.) If you’re not sure, you can still reach out to Debbie to let her know and then join the webinar to find out more. If you have specific questions, email Debbie and we’ll be in touch.
Thanks,
Josh Hooper
